For a long time I had been meaning to try and avail of the expertise of ISRO in Train Operations as well as Disaster Management. The recent rains in Mumbai coupled with high tide of 1st August gave us a chance to have a first hand experience of their expertise. When given the likely timings of High tide on 1st August as well as the stretch prone to inundation, project director of Disaster Management in ISRO was kind enought to divert a Canadian Satellite and take snaps of the area of concern and National Remote Sensing Agency was kind enough to give a preliminary study of terrain using Digital Terrain Mapping. ISRO also has bandwidth availability for VSAT communicatin during disasters (as well as telemedicine) which is linked with cabinet Secretariat, PMO and other monitoring areas.
I am sending the report to DFCCA to upload on the site as well a few pictures taken from Canadian Satellite of the focus areas. I am sure my colleagues will certainly think of utilising ISRO's services for satellite imaging, track alignment pattern, remote sensing of scraps lying by the side of tracks, VSAT bandwidht etc.
Suggestions are welcome.
Warm regards
